The story

Horcrux began after a locked Google account made years of email unreachable overnight. It grew into a simple promise: keep an independent copy in a format and location you control.
Since 2012
A lockout became a backup app.
When Google disabled founder Suhas Sharma’s account without explanation, support could not restore access. The problem was bigger than one inbox. Most people had entrusted a record of their lives to an account they did not truly control.
Horcrux was built so a provider outage, policy decision, deletion, or migration does not get the final word. It quietly keeps durable copies and helps people browse, restore, migrate, and export them.
Why the name?
A piece survives somewhere else.
The name borrows the central idea of a Horcrux: something survives because part of it has been kept elsewhere.
What guides us
Open over opaque
Email is stored as standard files with readable history. The archive should remain understandable even without Horcrux.
Quiet over needy
A backup app should work in the background, tell you when something matters, and stay out of the way the rest of the time.
