Horcrux is designed to keep your email under your control. This policy explains what the Horcrux Mac app, website, and licensing service process.
1. Email and credentials
The Horcrux app connects directly from your Mac to the email providers and backup destinations you choose. We do not operate a cloud service that receives or stores your backed-up email.
- Email messages, attachments, backup history, and search information are stored on your Mac or at storage destinations you configure.
- Email passwords and authorization credentials are stored in Apple Keychain on your Mac.
- When you use SFTP or Amazon S3, the app connects directly to that destination using the settings you provide.
If you contact support and choose to send logs, screenshots, or other files, we receive the information you include. Horcrux does not upload diagnostics automatically.
2. Purchases and licenses
To provide purchases, upgrades, and activation, our licensing service may process:
- Your email address and identifiers supplied by our payment provider.
- License status, purchased major version, support status, purchase source, and related transaction identifiers.
3. Payments
Direct purchases, upgrades, and optional support renewals are processed by Paddle, which acts as the merchant of record. Paddle receives and processes payment, billing, tax, and buyer information under Paddle's Privacy Policy. We do not receive or store your full payment-card number.
Purchases made through Apple's App Store are processed by Apple under your agreement with Apple. We receive only the purchase and entitlement information Apple makes available to the app.
4. Website and service operations
Our hosting providers may record ordinary request information such as IP address, requested URL, browser type, timestamp, and error details. We use this information to deliver the site, secure the service, diagnose failures, and prevent abuse.
We do not currently use advertising trackers or third-party analytics on the Horcrux website. Paddle may use cookies or similar storage when its checkout is opened.
5. How we use and share information
We use personal information only when needed to provide and secure Horcrux, complete purchases and upgrades, manage licenses, send license emails, answer support requests, comply with law, and improve reliability.
We share information only with service providers that perform those tasks for us, including Paddle, Apple where applicable, email delivery providers, and hosting providers. We may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect customers, Horcrux, or others. We do not sell personal information.
6. Retention and security
We retain purchase and license records for as long as needed to provide perpetual ownership, meet tax or accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and prevent fraud. Operational records are removed or limited according to our service needs and legal obligations.
We use technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the information we process. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
7. Your choices and rights
You may ask us to provide, correct, or delete personal information we control, subject to records we must retain for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or ownership purposes.
Depending on where you live, privacy law may provide additional rights such as access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection. Contact us to make a request. We may need to verify your identity before completing it.
8. Children
Horcrux is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review and remove it where required.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Horcrux, our service providers, or applicable laws change. The date at the top identifies the latest version. Material changes will be communicated when required by law.
