Global Settings

| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Limit Backup History | For accounts using Backup History, keeps only the newest number of backups after successful runs. Saved mail needed by retained backups remains. |
| Launch Application at Login | Starts Horcrux when you sign in to the Mac. |
| Run Application in Background | Keeps scheduled backups running after the main window closes. Use the H in the menu bar to reopen Horcrux. |
| Show Notifications | Allows Horcrux to notify you about durable problems that need attention. |
| Mute integrity alerts | Suppresses integrity notifications and lets scheduled backups continue. It does not change verification results or hide findings inside Horcrux. |
| Back up when the location is available | Waits and tries again when the Horcrux Library is unavailable instead of repeatedly alerting. |
Horcrux Library
The Horcrux Library contains required working data for every account: settings, mailbox and message catalogs, content-search indexes, job history, logs, and Backup Location records. It is not another copy of your saved email. Keep it on this Mac’s reliable internal storage when possible.
Change moves the Horcrux Library to another local folder. It does not move or replace any Backup Location.
Reconnect grants Horcrux access to the same Library again after macOS permission changes. It does not create a new empty backup or attach an existing Backup Location.
Purchase Horcrux 5
Both builds offer the same limited evaluation and permanent Horcrux 5 ownership. New customers see the full purchase. Customers with an earlier paid version see the discounted upgrade.
The App Store build verifies purchase history through Apple. The Direct build activates or upgrades using only your existing license key; the upgrade form does not ask for an email address. Use Restore Purchases or activate the key again after reinstalling.
We have not charged for a Horcrux upgrade in more than ten years. The upgrade supports continued maintenance so Horcrux can keep up with macOS and mail providers. We hope you enjoy Horcrux 5.
